At 0% depth, the view is the measured two-dimensional projection. Increasing depth deprojects the fitted ellipse into a bounded particle slab. On a desktop, drag to rotate and use the wheel to change distance. In VR, move your head to see the estimated depth. The motion is inspection, not a simulation of travel to the galaxy.
What is measured and what is simulated?
The particle colors and positions in the front view come from hash-verified Legacy Survey DR11 pixels. The renderer subtracts the measured sky floor and retains the central source footprint.
Line-of-sight position cannot be measured from one optical image. The viewer estimates it from the fitted axis ratio, position angle, and profile class. The estimate is capped and intentionally shallow. Foreground stars and projected neighbors remain because the source image cannot prove their physical association.
